Thoracic outlet syndrome is a condition that produces symptoms from compression of nerves or blood vessels, or both, because of an inadequate passageway through an area. The thoracic outlet is surrounded by muscle, bone, nerves etc. When conditions occur that results in enlargement or movement of the tissues of or near the neck or armpit, this can cause thoracic outlet syndrome. These conditions include muscle enlargement (such as from weight lifting) injuries, nerve or tissue damage, or a cervical rib (born with ).

Symptoms can range from neck, shoulder, arm and hand pain. Often times making the hands fall sleep at night or causing other discomforting symptoms.

When the enlarged tissue in the thoracic outlet compress the nerves in the area with the resulting pain, getting relief to those tissues can correct the problem quickly. As long as what is compressing the nerve or tissue isn’t a bone or a tumor, pain can be relieved by electrical stim, deep tissue work to the surrounding musculature, adjustments, and followed up with strengthening of the neck, shoulder, and traps.

Early treatment can result in healing these conditions without the need for surgery. Dr. Gomach can help you overcome this problem rapidly. Treatment will be tailored to your needs as you get the chance to spend time with the Doctor one on one every visit.

Cornerstone Rehab and Spine can ease your discomfort and help you return to your normal life again.
